High Streets everywhere are undergoing dramatic transformations. Whilst globalisation promises diversity, the domination of our High Streets by national and multinational retail and catering brands delivers the same repetitive formats worldwide. What are the implications of these changes? what actions can be taken to counteract them? IDENTI.CITY examines currents developments in inner-city High Streets, assesses socio-economic factors, seeks out the needs of consumers and conducts interviews with retailers, building owners, city planners and social geographers. The aim of IDENTI.CITY is to raise awareness of this problem and to provide strategic recommendations to local authorities, developers, street associations and community groups. It illustrates how with CITY CURATION the forces that impact upon prime urban locations can be effectively managed and High Streets revitalised.
